Country Florist Designs: Where Beauty Blooms Naturally

Hi there!

Let me introduce myself and tell you a bit about what’s gone into the making of Country Florist Designs.

My name is Emily and I’m a second generation florist. The focus of our designs are based on farmer-floristry. Also known as farm-to-vase or field-to-vase floristry, is a practice that involves sourcing flowers and foliage directly from local flower farms or growers to create floral arrangements. This approach emphasizes using seasonal, locally grown flowers and foliage, often with a focus on sustainability and supporting local farmers.

As a natural-born gardener, I’ve spent a lifetime working with and learning about flowers. For several years growing up I worked for garden centers and landscape crews. Both jobs I loved. With each I was immersed in an endless variety of plants. At the garden center I could create container displays and work with all the colours, textures, and flower varieties you could imagine. And with landscaping, I learned how plants can create flow and work in cohesion with other materials within a space to set the tone and bring it all together.

As a florist, I like my designs to look and feel like they are in harmony with nature. I love incorporating greenery, working with seasonal colours and blooms, and really creating a natural feel throughout my work.

Today, my family and I live on 5-acre hobby farm in Douro-Dummer, Ontario. In 2020 we opened a little garden center on the property and called it Farmacy Gardens which focuses on growing herbs, veggies, fruits, and native plants. The following year we renovated our century-old cabin which resides on the property into our store front and flower studio workspace.

What started out as a love for all things nature, has come full circle back into the family career of floristry. At Country Florist Designs we see flowers for what they are. A part of nature. We strive to be environmentally cautious. We don’t use any toxic floral foams, and try to limit any use of plastic materials. Our flowers are locally sourced, and sometimes cut fresh from our ever-expanding gardens right here at the farm.

For me, working with nature is not a job it’s a lifestyle. I heard once “to garden is to create”, and I couldn’t have worded it any better myself.
